Fresh & Green's Stores Closing - The Natural Markets Food Group (NMFG), parent company of Fresh & Green's grocery stores, will shutter the banner's six stores, in the District of Columbia and Maryland, by the end of December. NMFG acquired the former Superfresh stores from the Montvale, N.J.-based Great Atlantic & Pacific Tea Co. (A&P) in 2011 and reopened them under the Fresh & Green's banner. Progressive Grocer,

Mariano's Owner Roundy's Buying 11 Dominick's Stores - Mariano's, the fast-growing upscale grocery chain owned by Milwaukee-based Roundy's, will nearly double its Chicago-area presence with the deal to buy 11 Dominick's locations. The stores will be converted to the Mariano's banner beginning in the first quarter of 2014. Chicago Tribune, December 2, 2013. Spartan Stores to become SpartanNash with Completion of Nash Finch Deal - The official name change to SpartanNash is expected to become effective at the annual shareholders meeting in May 2014. The combined company will continue to conduct business as Spartan Stores, Nash Finch and MDV in their respective markets. MLive, November 19, 2013.
  Key Food Opens 150th Store, Introduces New Banner - Key Food Stores Co-operative Inc., a chain of independently owned and operated grocery stores, announced the grand opening of its 150th location and introduced a new banner into its supermarket family: Urban Market. Urban Market can best be described as a hybrid boutique supermarket, creating a unique shopping experience that intertwines full selections of both conventional and specialty items.
