Two Regions Battle for Top Spot
52-Weeks Ending 11/30/2014

Midsouth and Northeast led the category, while all Regions surpassed their 3-year averages. The Total U.S. avocado category continues to show impressive growth in the current 52-week period, surpassing the 3-year average.

The 3-Year Rolling Index compares recent category growth to the long-term (3-year) growth trends for the Total U.S. and for each of the Regions. For example, an index of 120 means the current growth rate exceeds the long-term trend by 20%. An index of 80 means the current growth rate lags the long-term trend by 20%.

New York Lifts Northeast into the Spotlight
4-Weeks Ending 11/30/2014

Northeast (+13.7%) took the lead in regional dollar growth rates, and also posted the largest absolute dollar gain, adding +$1.9 million in incremental sales.

New York was the largest market in Northeast and posted the largest dollar growth rate, up +36.2%.

Among 75 Million+ LBS Fruits

Avocado volume increased +11% for the period, outpacing Total Fruit by +12 points and moving to rank #2 on a growth rate basis. Tangerines topped the volume growth rate chart at +16%, followed by Melons and Apples.

Avocado dollar sales grew +8%, outpacing total Fruit (+2%) by +5 points. Avocados place fourth on a dollar growth rate basis, behind Lemons, Tangerines and Melons. Avocados rank sixth in total dollars and continue to show strong percentage growth.

Albertsons, Safeway to Divest 168 Stores in Advance of Merger - Haggen will purchase the majority, with 146 stores across Arizona, California, Nevada, Oregon and Washington; Associated Wholesale Grocers (AWG) / Minyards will buy 12 stores in Texas; Associated Food Stores (AFS) will purchase eight stores in Montana and Wyoming; and Supervalu will purchase two in Washington. Wal-Mart Cuts a New Path through Rural Texas - Wal-Mart is rediscovering small-town Texas. This time it's focusing on even smaller towns than it did in the 1970s and 1980s. Onstead to Depart as Bi-Lo CEO - Bi-Lo Holdings stated that Randall Onstead was departing as its president and CEO effective March 1. The Jacksonville, Fla.-based company, parent of the Bi-Lo and Winn-Dixie chains, said it has identified a successor for Onstead, but would name the successor at a later date.
