California Region Adds +5 Million Units in
Mid-Summer Volume Surge

California (+24.8%) is the second largest avocado region in volume at 25 million units and posted an absolute volume gain of +5.0 million incremental units. Total U.S. added +29.7 million units.
 
Los Angeles was the largest market in California and added +2.9 million units in incremental sales. Los Angeles volume increased +32.1%.

A&P Wants to Sell Off All Stores
 
 
The Great Atlantic & Pacific Tea Co. (A&P) has revealed what many have widely speculated since the grocer filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection: It’s officially seeking to dispose of its remaining 153 locations, in addition to its original plans to close 25 stores and sell 118, according to published reports. Haggen To Close or Sell 27 Stores
 
 
Eight months after acquiring 146 stores divested from the Albertsons/Safeway merger, Haggen is closing or selling 27 locations in California, Arizona, Nevada, Oregon and Washington, with more to follow as part of the Bellingham, Wash.-based retailer's "right-sizing strategy." K-VA-T Acquiring 29 Bi-Lo Stores from Southeastern Grocers
K-VA-T Food Stores Inc. will acquire 29 Bi-Lo locations in Chattanooga, Tenn., and northwest Georgia from Jacksonville, Fla.-based Southeastern Grocers. K-VA-T will operate all of the stores under its flagship Food City banner and plans to hire the vast majority of Bi-Lo associates when the transaction closes. Progressive Grocer, July 23, 2015.
