Southeast Explodes onto the Scene

The Southeast Region has exploded onto the scene this period, posting the largest avocado growth rate in volume (+47%) and dollars (+21%). Southeast posted an absolute dollar gain of +$2.9MM.
 
Miami/Ft. Lauderdale was the largest market in Southeast and added +$710k in incremental sales. All Southeast markets posted double-digit dollar growth.

Southeast index hits 130, leading the 3-year index ranking. All Regions continue to show outstanding growth in the current 52-week period, surpassing their respective 3-year averages.
 
The 3-Year Rolling Index compares recent category growth to the long-term (3-year) growth trends for the Total U.S. and for each of the Regions. For example, an index of 120 means the current growth rate exceeds the long-term trend by 20%. An index of 80 means the current growth rate lags the long-term trend by 20%.

Acme Markets to Buy 76 A&P Stores
 
In the immediate wake of A&P's July 19 Chapter 11 filing, Malvern, Pa.-based Acme Markets has tendered a deal to acquire 76 of the beleaguered chain's namesake, Superfresh and Pathmark banners…As Progressive Grocer previously reported, Ahold USA's Stop & Shop division is poised to acquire 25 New York metro-area A&P stores. Albertsons Slates 115 Remodels, 8 New Stores
Albertsons and Safeway's parent company will open eight new and replacement stores in 2015 and remodel a total of 115 existing stores across most of its operating divisions…AB Acquisition LLC operates approximately 2,200 stores and 1,700 pharmacies in 34 states and the District of Columbia under 18 banners. Kroger Reopens in Former Hiller’s Market Locations
Kroger reopened six of seven former Hiller’s Market locations on Wednesday as the grocery chain continues to invest $150 million in Michigan stores. In addition, the stores will now offer expanded product lines, including ethnic selections…Also, Fresh Thyme specialty grocery opened three new stores in Troy, Rochester Hills and Northville.
