Aldi Planning More Stores in Florida
Aldi plans to add up to five new stores in Palm Beach County, Fla., more than doubling the number of locations it currently operates there, local authorities said. The Batavia, Ill.-based retailer recently established a Florida South Division based in Royal Palm Beach. Supermarket News, May 29, 2015.
Largest Organic Grocer Now Costco, Analysts Say
Costco Wholesale seems to have quietly surpassed Whole Foods to become the biggest organic grocer as it courts a younger demographic, according to one investment bank. More than 1 out of 10 dollars in organic food sales are made at a Costco. The Seattle Times, June 1, 2015.
Whole Foods to Launch New Value-oriented Format
Whole Foods Market has unveiled plans to open next year a new value-oriented format that maintains the grocer's leading standards, but with lower price points and a curated selection. The company said it's currently negotiating leases and expects a fairly rapid expansion following the initial launch. Progressive Grocer, May 7, 2015.
