Avocado volume (units) growth varied widely across the regions this period, ranging from +12.7% in South Central to -8.1% in Southeast. Despite these volume swings, increasing prices across the regions helped boost dollar growth.

Lidl preps for Ohio entry
German deep-discounter Lidl, which debuted its first U.S. stores this summer in North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia, is now preparing for its entry into Ohio, according to a published report. The grocer has already submitted applications to build locations in Broadview Heights, a suburb of Cleveland; Howland, a township near Warren; and Austintown, south of Columbus, with more applications to come

Smart & Final launches new delivery platform
Smart & Final Stores Inc. has launched a new delivery platform powered by grocery-delivery service Instacart as part of a renewed collaboration between the two companies. Smart & Final customers across Arizona, California and Nevada can now fill their virtual carts with products from fresh produce and quality meats to club-size essentials, and have them delivered the same day, often in as little as an hour.

Aldi enters grocery delivery in partnership with Instacart
German grocery chain Aldi Inc [ALDIEI.UL] said on Sunday it has partnered with Instacart Inc to deliver groceries in three U.S. cities, a move that comes amid intense competition and disruption in the industry. Aldi will launch a pilot starting the end of this month in Los Angeles, Atlanta and Dallas with the potential of expanding to more cities in the future.
