New York bucked the general trend this period, showing strong volume growth at +6.9%, and slowed the overall decline in the Northeast Region (-2.0%). New York also showed strong dollar growth at +10.1%, which helped lift dollar sales +6.0% in the Northeast Region.

Amazon working on new grocery format
Amazon and Whole Foods Market are working together on a new grocery format poised to disrupt the industry. Amazon CFO Brian Olsavsky told analysts and investors on Amazon's Q3 conference call that the Seattle-based ecommerce giant is working on developing new grocery store formats as part of its integration of the Austin, Texas-based natural and organic grocer.

Supervalu to acquire Associated Grocers of Florida
Supervalu Inc. and Associated Grocers of Florida Inc. have entered into a definitive merger agreement for Supervalu to acquire Associated Grocers for about $180 million. The deal enables Eden Prairie, Minn.-based Supervalu to expand its operations into a new part of Florida, and bring its products and services to Associated Grocers’ diverse customer base in south Florida, the Caribbean, Central and South America and Asia.

Amazon Fresh offering shoppable recipes via AllRecipes.com
AllRecipes.com now features an embedded button in its top recipes that allows home cooks to purchase a recipe’s ingredients and have them delivered to their homes with one click. While the launch has integrated Amazon Fresh into many of the highest-trafficked recipes on AllRecipes.com, over time, the new functionality will extend into all possible recipes on the site.
