2014 Hass Avocado Board Elections

Become a part of the Hass Avocado Board

Application Period
March 17th to April 16th

“The Hass Avocado Board is strong and getting stronger. We welcome the participation of colleagues who can help turn this anticipation into a more powerful alliance of industry experts.”

James W. Johnson
HAB Chairman

From 2002 to 2013, Hass avocado consumption in the United States has expanded from 484 million pounds to nearly 1.7 billion.  To continue the unprecedented growth and success of the category, the Hass Avocado Board is seeking individuals dedicated to strengthening the industry and further grow demand.

The Hass Avocado Board is scheduling its annual board elections for vacant domestic Hass avocado grower and Hass avocado importer members.

“HAB exists to strengthen the connection between growers and importers to the market across the United States.”

Emiliano Escobedo
Executive Director

The creation of the Hass Avocado Board came about because of a provision in the U.S. Hass Avocado Promotion, Research and Information Act. It became law in 2000, and HAB was formally established in 2002.

HAB is not involved in producing or selling Hass Avocados. Instead, HAB manages a comprehensive research, marketing, and information program whose overarching objective is to increase the consumption of Hass Avocado in the United States.

HAB’s 12-member board operates under United States Department of Agriculture oversight. Hass Avocado Board members represent the avocado producers and importers in the United States market.  Board members are responsible for the allocation of assessment revenue into programs that will support the objective of increasing consumption of Hass Avocados regardless of where they are produced. HAB board members represent a diverse group of growers and importers in the Hass Avocado industry. Participation in board activities provides members with exposure to global perspectives affecting the avocado industry.

Board members meet in person four times per year (usually January, May, September and November) for board meetings. Board meetings take place in our office in Orange County and typically last about 6 hours. All board meetings are public and we encourage participation from avocado industry members, click here to learn about our upcoming meetings
